Electroforming is a metal forming process that uses electricity to deposit metal onto a substrate to create a replica of a shape. The process was first developed in his mid-19th century and has been widely used ever since in the production of precision metal parts. Copper was one of the first metals used in electroforming because of its high electrical conductivity and ease of electroplating. In this process, a mold is immersed in an electrolyte and a direct current is applied to deposit metal ions into the mold, forming a uniform layer of metal. Multiple layers can be added over time to create a thicker deposit. The deposited metal is then removed from the mold to produce the final electroformed product. Electroforming of copper has a wide range of applications, including the production of coins, jewelry, and precision engineering components.
